William D. Jack CFP, FCIA
William Jack worked as an actuary in the life insurance industry for 35 years, and is knowledgeable about all types of life, health and annuity products, both individual and group. In 2003, he started writing the Certified Financial Planning exams and obtained his CFP designation in July, 2006. He enjoys helping individuals and their families understand the important financial and lifestyle issues around retirement.
In his career, William worked in the financial reporting function for both group and individual lines of business. This experience created a natural segue into building comprehensive financial models for individuals. Since 2004 William has been working closely with Patrick Longhurst CFP. He is the co-founder of Longhurst & Jack Inc.
William is an active member of the Retirement Planners Association of Canada. He works with Patrick to update the retirement planning course material on an annual basis for the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners. Through these activities, he has developed a knowledge of the entire spectrum of lifestyle as well as financial issues confronting people who are considering retirement. Examples of these issues include:
- working with the client’s lawyer on wills and powers of attorney for property and healthcare;
- advising on charitable giving, foundations and trusts;
- helping clients make the transition from accumulating assets to generating income in retirement;
- planning the progression of the stages of retirement, moving from a house, through downsizing, to a retirement residence and ultimately to a long term care facility.
William has worked with over 200 clients in the last 6 years, using his financial modeling expertise and his interest in this wide range of lifestyle issues.
